When it comes to sanding and refinishing hardwood floors, the most commonly asked question is,"How dusty will it really be?"
Sanding and refinishing hardwood floors involves removing old finish and wear, exposing the raw wood. In the past, this was a messy and dusty process. Luckily, a dust-free solution now exists which removes 98% of the airborne particles through a powerful vacuum extraction and filtering system. The dust is captured before it has a chance to spread to the air. Schmidt Custom Floors was one of the first companies in Colorado to invest in this specialized equipment. It's proven to be highly effective, especially for clients with allergies or asthma. Unfortunately, some contractors take shortcuts and use shop vac's which do not achieve a clean process. So it pays to ask questions about the performance of the dust-free systems available. While no system is 100% dust-free, we use the most effective machinery on the market today.
Stain and Finish
Stain is applied to the floor once the sanding is finished. Clients may choose light/natural tones or as dark as ebony. There is a large spectrum of stain colors to choose from such as reds, browns, whites and grays. Once the stain color has been chosen and applied to the wood, additional coats of finish are added to seal in the color and boards. In general, it will take 3-5 days to refinish your hardwood floors. Stain color, square footage and finish can all add time to the project. A general timeline can vary based on many different factors: weather, species of wood, the direction in which the wood is being installed, etc.Hardwood floors cannot always be refinished. Sometimes, the boards are damaged beyond repair and need to be replaced.
