Designer Picks to Warm Up Your Home

Fall is fast approaching. It is my favorite time of year! The crisp morning air is a refreshing change after the warm summer. Pumpkin spice lattes have made a welcome return along with shimmers of gold on the aspen trees. What a perfect time to warm up your home to prepare for winter!I love the durability, easy maintenance and timeless design of hardwood flooring. Wood creates a naturally warm feeling in your home, however there are several ways to make the space feel even cozier.

Area Rugs

Area rugs are the perfect way to compliment your hardwood flooring and add comfort and warm up your space.
Adding a rug also helps to reduce the noise in a home and anchor the furniture arrangement. There are a variety of standard sizes available, however these sizes aren't always ideal for your room. My designer picks of the month are these two patterns from Tuftex. Try using the two coordinating patterns to tie your spaces together and create a nice flow throughout your home. Why not make a small entry rug to coordinate with the large area rug in your Great Room? A variety of beautiful colors are available in both patterns that are sure to add warmth and style to your space.Colors for 2019 are trending more towards warmer grays and earth tones for wall paint and accents. The available color pallet of these rugs compliments both warm gray and earth tones well. Additionally, as color trends continue to change, the neutral pallet and pattern of this rug will stand the test of time.

Add Some Spark to your Fireplace

Another way to warm up your home and compliment your new wood floors is to add an interesting tile to your fireplace surround. A popular choice here in Northern Colorado is stacked stone. Use slate stacked stone for a more rustic feel or try travertine stacked stone for a more classic approach. The dimension and texture of stacked stone is sure to add interest to your space.

One more look that is ideal for the fireplace are large scale tiles. Many interesting patterns are offered in 12"x 24" tiles that will provide a fresh look to your home. Offering a different texture than the stacked stone, the wavy pattern gives an interesting dimension to the wall.If you'd prefer a more subtle and traditional design, we also have several large scale tiles that resemble stone. Today's use of digital photography gives the realistic look of stone for a lower cost. The fireplace is often the focal point of the room, so make it steal the show by using an interesting tile!
