How to Prepare Your Home for Floor Installation

A smooth install starts a few days before the crew arrives. Here is what we ask homeowners to do — and what we take care of ourselves.

Key summary

  • Empty closets, bookshelves, and dressers; we move the furniture itself.
  • Take down items on walls in adjacent rooms — installation vibrates.
  • Plan pet and kid space away from the work zone.
  • Keep HVAC running normally so acclimation stays on track.

What you handle

Small breakables, electronics, closet contents, and anything fragile on shared walls. Clear a path from the driveway to the work area, and plan parking for a materials truck.

What we handle

Furniture moving, demo and haul-away of the old floor, dust containment, subfloor prep, install, transitions, trim, and a full cleanup before we hand the room back.

Living in the house during the job

Most projects let you stay home. For site-finished hardwood, plan to be out during finish application and overnight cure. We will tell you exactly which nights matter when we schedule.
