Wall tile that looks designed, not installed

Wall tile is where a tile setter's skill is most visible. Cuts at outlets, end-pieces against cabinets, miters at corners, and grout lines at the ceiling all read at eye level - there's nowhere to hide a sloppy job. Schmidt Custom Floors installs wall tile across Northern Colorado for kitchen backsplashes, shower surrounds, full bath wet walls, fireplace surrounds, and accent feature walls.

We carry subway tile, handmade zellige, large-format porcelain slabs, marble and travertine, glass mosaics, and the textured 3D tile that's everywhere right now in primary bathrooms.

We start by checking the wall for plumb and flat - a 1/8" bow over 4 feet means tile will telegraph the wave. We add backer board or skim-coat as needed, then dry-lay the pattern to confirm cuts land in symmetrical places (centered over the range, balanced at corners).

Showers get a full waterproofing membrane behind the tile, niches are framed and waterproofed before tile goes up, and every cut at an outlet or fixture is hand-trimmed to fit snugly behind the cover plate. We finish with sealed grout (or epoxy on showers) and a final wipe-down.
